LIGHT YEARS AWAY

Immersive cinematographic performance

As members of the Edelweiss speleology club, Edurne Rubio’s father and uncles discovered and explored one of the largest caves in the world between 1960 and 1980 - the Ojo Guareña in northern Spain. In her performance, Edurne Rubio invites the audience to return to this underground haven of freedom with her father and a camera.
Light Years Away explores caves as spaces inhabited by prehistoric humans, explorers, tourists and animals, but also as mental spaces, figments of our collective psyche. The performance is a highly personal account of a passion, but also a cinematographic essay on light and darkness; a profound meditation on the nature of human beings, their thirst for knowledge and freedom.
