Salomé

Hynoptic bar-opera

A blood-soaked Salome makes her entrance on the stage of an old-fashioned cabaret. Flashback: her stepfather Herod lusts after her, John the Baptist reviles her, her dance, that empowers her to ask for whatever she wants. The spoken song (Sprechgesang) progressively morphs into music and full song, and with it a sense of deep emotional disturbance. Based on the original libretto, Christian Garcia-Caucher has created an entirely new score and lyrics for this classic opera. The virtuoso singer and her pianist deliver an intimate and hauntingly captivating performance in a setting imbued with the expressionist aesthetics of 1920s Germany.
