Manon & Jean de Florette

Contemporary popular theatre in the great outdoors

When Jean inherits an old farm, he, his wife Aimée and their daughter Manon leave the city to start a new life in the countryside. But two villagers, Ugolin and his uncle “le Papet” have other plans for the land and plug the farm’s vital water source with cement.

With simple props, a good dose of salty humour and a boisterous passion for acting, the Belgian collective retells this tragicomedy by Marcel Pagnol. Midst of nature, they set up their timber rostrum, serve the audience a glass of pastis as they arrive and feed them a simple, informal dinner of French countryside cuisine during the interval. A celebration of theatre for all in a relaxed, unstuffy ambience, somewhere between a rural cooperative get-together and an old-fashioned village fair.
